Trend's Alert: Wedding themes
1. Taupe / Blush Pink / Pearl – on the softer side of things, very elegant and understated. Try taupe table cloths, pearl napkins on mirrored charger plates with white and shades of light pink flowers for the centre. Soothing and passionate.
2. Mustard / Grey / White – a little bolder and more gender neutral, perfect for a fall wedding. Try with grey table cloths, white napkins, mustard flowers made from wool mixed with white fresh flowers, custom table numbers with white background, grey fancy order and mustard numbering. You can always replace with red and you have a bold colour combination and tons of options for flowers.
3. Teal / Orange / White – very bright and refreshing. Look for white chiavari chairs, white table cloths, teal napkins and orange flowers in a teal vessel. Feel free to sub the orange with yellow or coral.
4. Plum / Chartreuse Green / Gold –gives you the regal feel of the rich tones, add the green to break things up. Also cymbidium orchids are gorgeous. Don’t be afraid to use the green as a table cloth colour for your family tables with purple napkins and gold charger plates but this will be a good start. Plum would be closer to a purple/fuchsia tone.
5. Navy Blue / Fuchsia / Light Pink / Cream – use more of the blue and creme with the fuchsia as your tertiary colour and shades of pink flowers for your centrepiece. Cream table cloths, navy napkins – too light? Flip the combo.
6. Purple / Pewter / Dusty Aqua – Picture dark linens (purple or pewter), dusty aqua napkins on silver or glass charger plates with a silver border, multiple shades of blue and purple orchids for the centre piece.
Bridal Shower in mind?
Budget
It’s important to set a budget in advance of the planning. Let everyone know in advance how much they will be expected to contribute and make sure money is collected in the beginning. This will help save you from having to deal with any last minute confusion or disagreements.
Theme
Try to think of what the bride would like to do for her shower. Would she be happiest in a cozy home with good food, games and her best friends? Would she like something a bit more elegant like a tea or more relaxing like a spa day?
Gifts
Make it easy for the guests by shedding some light on this. If you are having a theme shower and gifts tie into the theme, make sure guests know this (for example, gifts for a kitchen themed shower). Also make sure the bride and groom have completed their registry before the shower so guests have many choices in different price ranges. Make sure someone writes down all gifts and the names of those who gave them so the bride can use the list later when writing the thank you cards.
Invitations
Invitations do not need to be very formal for the bridal shower. If it is a smaller shower, try creating hand-made invitations if you’re the creative type.
Menu
If you’re having a shower theme, try to tie the food in. Food can be catered or prepared by friends and family. Keep the bride’s favourites in mind and realize also that some guests may have special dietary needs. Also, serve an assortment of desserts and have the bride cut a cake at the end of the shower.
Entertainment
Showers are all about the bride having fun with her loved ones. Great food, lots of laughter and some games are all you need! Have some great background music playing and plan out a few games that will get everyone laughing. If a lot of the guests do not know each other include an icebreaker in the beginning.
